Brompton Bicycle confirmed that the 14th Brompton World Championship Final will take place on Saturday 3 August 2019 as part of Prudential RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling.
The famous eight-lap circuit starts with a Le Mans-style dash on The Mall, with 550 riders frantically unfolding their Bromptons before taking on a 16km circuit around St James’ Park.
The first rider to cross the finish line will claim the championship and take home a custom Brompton bike. The compact size of a Brompton makes it easy to fit into daily life, and this is reflected in the dress code chosen for the race which has a strict no Lycra rule in favour of city chic style.
Qualifying events are held all across the world in the run-up to the final. Last year, riders from 27 different countries competed, with the accolades going to former British champ Emma Pooley in the Women’s Title and newcomer Cam Gutteridge in the men’s.
“I can safely say that nothing compares to the thrill and atmosphere that accompanies the Brompton World Championships, stepping up onto the podium was definitely something I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. A fantastic event to be able to take part in and quite the spectacle to watch too!” said Gutteridge.
Alongside the racing, Brompton will once again host an exclusive hospitality area, with artisan food and drink available for racers and spectators alike. Throughout the Prudential RideLondon, visitors will be able to experience the very best of Brompton bikes, as they continue their official partnership for the fifth year in a row.
Registration for the race is open until Wednesday 11th February. The race is limited to 550 riders with successful applicants chosen at random on 14th February.
