Every September, thousands of skryunners and ultrarunners flock to the hills of Glencoe, Scotland for the fabled Skyline Scotland weekend.

Brainchild of Kendal-based Ourea Events, Skyline Scotland involves four skyrunning races over three days – including the infamous Salomon Glen Coe Skyline®.

Last year the event formed part of the Skyrunning World Championships and also the Salomon Golden Trail Series, attracting the very best international skyrunners from all over the world. In 2019 the Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace™ will again be penultimate race in the Golden Trail Series, attracting runners such as Kilian Jornet, Stian Angermund-Vik, Holly Page and Tove Alexandersson.

This year, Scottish trail running company, Girls on Hills Ltd, based in Glencoe itself, will be delivering recce weekends for three of the four races, as well as a programme of guided walks for spectators. Girls on Hills has been named the official and exclusive provider of these events, and are supported by sponsors Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports:

“These events are open to both men and women, and will be led by local professionally qualified guides with experience of the event. Runners can expect a safe and high-quality experience with someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the race, the route and the challenging Glencoe terrain,” says company Director, Keri Wallace.

“Whether you are new to skyrunning, new to the area, or simply seeking familiarity with the race route, and aiming to do as well as possible on the day, then these are the events for you! Places are limited and we are expecting the recces to be popular given the ever-increasing popularity of skyrunning as a sport in both the UK and overseas.”

A programme of guided walks will also be available for supporters and spectators over the race weekend. Some of these will be challenging hikes to high summits with great views over the competing field, while others will be easier, low-level hikes which still intercept the race routes, allowing friends and family to cheer on the runners and experience the raw-excitement of skyrunning in Scotland.
