Virtual challenge provider Virtuathon has launched its Workplace Virtuathon in collaboration with Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation at a high-profile event hosted by BBC TV presenter Steph McGovern.
The launch took place at Rathbones Hall in the Port of Liverpool Building, and saw Liverpool-based charity Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation team up with Virtuathon to help inspire a more active, healthy and motivated workforce. Steph McGovern addressed business leaders at this special lunch event to discuss the impact of health on the workforce, which is very much in line with Virtuathon’s aim to get employees active whilst raising vital funds for charity.
Attendees, including representatives from Liverpool FC, Everton FC, HSBC and Grant Thornton, heard about the importance of employee wellbeing both in and out of work and how greater wellbeing improves workplace performance in terms of profitability, productivity and job satisfaction.
It was the perfect platform to introduce Workplace Virtuathon, a virtual 5K or 10K walking, jogging or running challenge that can be completed at any location, individually or with colleagues. The challenge provides all the ingredients that employees of any physical ability need for a successful health-kick: an achievable spring goal, an 8-week, integrated training programme with employee wellbeing, and a Virtuathon medal as an achievement award.
The 8-week lifestyle training programme is delivered by Virtuathon’s training delivery partner, Get Event Fit, via the Get Event Fit app. The app guides, educate and motivates employees daily throughout their training journey. Participants can expect easy-to-follow exercise workouts with videos, recovery advice, yoga for runners, nutrition education, healthy eating recipes, positive mindset advice, meditation, employee wellbeing education and much more to inspire them throughout their 8-week training journey. The great thing about Workplace Virtuathon is that it encourages positive, healthy habits that continue long after the challenge is complete and which help to reduce stress and increase motivation in the workplace.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has partnered with Virtuathon to support those taking part in fundraising activities through Workplace Virtuathon. Through the charity, companies are being offered free employee entry to the Workplace Virtuathon by agreeing to fundraise a minimum sponsorship of £35 for the 5K challenge and £75 for the 10K challenge. All money raised will help to research, prevent and provide support to all those affected by the UK’s biggest cancer killer, lung cancer.

Companies of any size can participate in Workplace Virtuathon. They can choose to either apply for free employee entries from partner charity Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, or buy employee entries at £19.98 (excluding VAT) each and then optionally fundraise for their own charity.
The next Workplace Virtuathon takes place over the weekend of 19th-20th May 2018. Registration closes on Wednesday 21st March and the employee 8-week training programme begins on Monday 26th March.
