The Asics Gel DS Trainer is lighter than a normal trainer and that means it packs less protection than other same brand shoes such as the 2000 series. But it still provides fair levels of cushioning with a springy ride, as well as having some support and guidance for mild over-pronators. The fit is comfortable and snug, whilst the forefoot flexibility and responsiveness are very good, not least because of the competitive low ride feel at 9mm, for the heel to toe drop. For some lighter runners with no injury concerns this might be a daily trainer. But for most it will be for races, ideal for 10ks, and if you have a marathon target of around three hours or less and no injury concerns, the balance between lightness and protection could make the Gel DS ideal for you.
A good combination of lightness and protection for those targeting a swift time.
