“There is now compelling evidence to show that contact with nature and the outdoors improves physical health and mental wellbeing.”
Alan Law, Natural England’s Chief Strategy and Reform Officer
Have you ever wanted to give back to your community? Find a commendable project to support? Well, No Boundaries, a sports club that specialises in outdoor adventures is starting a worthwhile cause in 2018.
In January the organisation launched its charitable and community venture. Their aim is to bring those who may not be able to experience the benefits of the outdoors to Italy for free; for a 3-day challenge focusing on team building activities that everyone can enjoy and complete.
No Boundaries firmly supports the belief that physical activity performed in an outdoor environment improves both physiological and psychological wellbeing.
“Imagine a therapy that had no known side effects, was readily available, and could improve your cognitive functioning at zero cost. It exists and it’s called interacting with nature.” Stephen Kaplan
Their company ethos of “promoting equality, valuing diversity and working inclusively” across their organisation is something they’ve integrated into their altruistic endeavours. So they’ve focused on 4 charitable causes and their communities whom they feel can benefit most from this experience.
- Child Carers – Provide young carers the opportunity to break from their caring responsibilities and spend time with others who share similar experiences.
- Physical Disabilities – No matter what your disability, it’s possible to overcome the challenges you face and enjoy an active life.
- Mental Health – There is something about nature that can put your mind at ease. The great outdoors can be a powerful and restorative place.
- Loneliness & Social Isolation – They want to help connect people with each other and with nature.
No Boundaries is launching a crowd funder to help cover the cost of organising 4 trips in 2018, one for each cause, starting in June. Each cause will have 12 participants (48 in total).
This is just the beginning. The company plans to develop programmes to fill the needs of those who are underprivileged. The goal is to fund their own trips, working together with like-minded charities to provide a year round service.
